Center for Health Promotion and Human Performance

research at TCC

Three core research domains

Health Promotion and Prevention

Health promotion is the compression of morbidity to the last years of a person’s lifespan. While we will age, the more healthy years we have prior to the onset of disease, the more productive we can be and the more we can enjoy life. Through education, policy changes, changes in laws and/ or social support services conditions are created that allow a person to be well as long as possible.

Human Performance

Enhanced human performance means improved functional status, balance, biomechanics, and reduced risk for functional injury and disability. Typical functional assessments aimed at athletes to improve playing ability can also be applied to all humans in order to better understand risks for premature functional and mechanical breakdowns in the neuro-musculoskeletal system. The human physiology lab at TCC has the ability to perform complex assessments designed to improve human performance and function.

Community Health Outreach and Partnerships

We are actively striving to develop community health networks with partners in the academic and public health community arena. This area of emphasis is related to how education and outreach can positively affect those in our community. Community partners may include other colleges and universities, health centers, safety-net clinics, military bases, and other agencies such as the Area Agencies on Aging.
