Dr. Shari Wynd has several undergraduate and graduate degrees in the area of health sciences (Kinesiology and Chiropractic) and engineering. Her PhD focused on identifying the injury mechanisms of the vertebral artery during the application of cervical spine manipulation therapy (cSMT). Her thesis involved the development of an animal model to directly investigate vertebral artery injury during cSMT and the development of a robotic system capable of applying cSMT to an experimental cadaveric specimen. While she was completing her PhD, she worked part-time as a chiropractor in both private practice and at the University of Calgary’s student health clinic, applying her biomechanical knowledge to daily clinical situations.
Upon graduation, Dr. Wynd began teaching biomechanics to chiropractic students. Her primary area of interest is in the kinematic and kinetic assessment of the spine and lower extremities during the performance of various activities (walking, running, cycling, etc.). She also is interested in the use of orthotics in the treatment of lower extremity joint dysfunction and rehabilitation.
