TCC Announces New Book Award

PASADENA, Texas - Texas Chiropractic College is proud to announce the establishment of the Dr. Sandra K. Hughes Book Award, sponsored by Dr. Hughes, a TCC alumna, and her husband, and TCC Board of Regent member, Ken Cauthorn. The $500 award will be available beginning with the Fall 2010 entering class.
This new award will be offered to one entering student at the beginning of each trimester. Selection for the award will be based on academic achievement with a minimum eligibility of a 3.25 cumulative grade point average at the time of entrance. An essay from the applicants on why they deserve the award is also required for consideration.
Dr. Hughes graduated from TCC in 1994 and opened a practice in El Paso, where she worked for seven years while also teaching high school science. She returned to Houston in 2001, and returned to her alma mater in 2003 as the Director of Admissions. She left admissions in 2009 to return to teaching high school physics.
“As a former TCC student and admissions director, I’ve always been aware and sympathetic to the many challenges of new DC students,” said Dr. Hughes. “I am thrilled that Ken and I have this opportunity to give back to TCC, and hopefully give a new student a better start to their chiropractic career.”
Cauthorn is the president of Hampton Tax Group. His business works primarily with the healthcare industry, especially with doctors of chiropractic, helping small businesses with tax and financial planning.
“I know how hard Sandy worked to help new students get ready to start their studies at TCC while she was the admissions director,” shared Cauthorn. “We are happy to now be in a position to help these students.”
