This course addresses the fundamentals of biopsychosocial assessment techniques with emphasis on relevant models of psychiatric disease. The course emphasizes psychological basis of human health and illness as relevant to encountering and treating patients in a clinical environment. DSM basis of anxiety, mood, psychotic, somatoform and personality disorders are thoroughly presented in terms of clinical signs, symptoms, diagnoses and treatments. Throughout the course, a case based approach is utilized to orient the student to clinically relevant features of psychiatric pre and co-morbidity.
