Finding Purpose Through Chiropractic

Board of Regents Member Ken Cauthorn Awarded Honorary Degree (960 × 400 px)

Texas Chiropractic College (TCC) celebrated the graduation of 21 students at the Dr. Shelby and Connie Elliott Auditorium on April 15. The ceremony was a momentous occasion for both the graduates and the college community as they celebrated the culmination of years of hard work and dedication. Each ceremony, TCC honors one graduate with the Student Keeler Award.

The Student Keeler Award is one of the highest honors bestowed upon a graduating student at Texas Chiropractic College (TCC) for their unselfish engagement in service, professional scholarship, and high regard among TCC faculty.

The process of receiving the Student Keeler Award at TCC is no small feat. It requires a student to not only secure a nomination from the Keeler Award Committee but also earn the approval of the TCC faculty through voting. This year’s recipient of the Student Keeler Award is Kadyn Grayson.

“To be recognized by my professors, and in front of my peers, it’s just a huge honor,” said Grayson. “I feel like all the hard work, all the sleepless nights, all the sacrifices I made, it was all worth it.”

Grayson’s journey to becoming a chiropractor was born out of her personal experience with a brutal assault. After her trauma, Grayson sought help from a chiropractor, who not only assisted in her physical recovery but also provided her with a newfound sense of hope and inspiration.

Recalling the pivotal moment that motivated her to pursue a career in chiropractic care, Grayson shared, “after my assault, I was in a lot of pain and felt hopeless about my future. Visiting a chiropractor allowed me to realize the power of healing through holistic care, and I knew that I wanted to help others in the same way.”

Despite her unwavering passion, Grayson’s journey was not without its challenges. She faced numerous obstacles that threatened to derail her progress, including moments of self-doubt and uncertainty.

“There were moments when I asked myself if I could do it, if my dreams were too big. But I learned to push through those doubts, to believe in myself and to keep striving towards my dreams no matter what obstacles I encountered,” Grayson recalls. “It wasn’t easy, but I learned that with hard work and dedication, anything is possible.”

Grayson persevered with the support of her mom, who she says always pushed her to do her best.

“My mom is my biggest inspiration,” said Grayson. “Her unwavering love and support have been a constant source of motivation for me throughout my journey. I wouldn’t be where I am today without her.”

Grayson also expresses gratitude towards her peers, staff, and faulty at TCC.

“I couldn’t have done this alone. I am grateful for the support and encouragement of the amazing staff at TCC. Dr. Thompson, all the attendings, and my whole class have been there for me every step of the way,” said Grayson.

“It is always rewarding to work with students like Kadyn who are focused, driven and have a vision for their future,” said Associate Vice President of Enrollment Services Monique Lewis “It is an even greater joy to see them actualize their dreams and begin to make an impact in the world.”

Grayson credits Lewis for playing a crucial and transformative role in her educational journey, attributing much of her success to her unwavering support and guidance.

“I am especially grateful for Monique,” Grayson said. “She knows my story, my struggles, and has provided me with invaluable guidance and support throughout my journey. I could not have achieved this without her.”

Grayson’s hard work and dedication have made her a valuable resource for lower trimester students at TCC, and her efforts have not gone unnoticed.

“Kadyn is a prime example of the type of student we see at Texas Chiropractic College,” says Executive Director of Student Services Natosha Savage. “She has dedicated herself to serving the TCC community and has truly made a difference in the lives of those around her.”

Grayson’s unwavering commitment and tireless efforts have not only earned her the Student Keeler Award but have established her as an invaluable resource to the chiropractic profession. She serves as a shining example of how perseverance and dedication can make one’s aspirations a reality.

Upon completing her licensure exams, Grayson plans to take her skills overseas where there is a significant demand for chiropractic care.
