Dear TCC Community,
This month, the Office of Advancement & Alumni Engagement is launching the annual Season of Giving Campaign with a focus on supporting the Student Pantry. Through this campaign, our generous donors are encouraged to give back in ways that directly support our students: ensuring that those facing food and other insecurities have access to the resources they need to succeed both in and out of the classroom.
But what if we could launch our own internal campaign? One that focuses not only on material giving but also on sharing the very generosity that defines our TCC community. This season of giving, I encourage you all to give kindness, to give support, and to give time. Offer a helping hand to a colleague or classmate, share words of encouragement with one another, or simply show patience and understanding to those around you. All of these are meaningful ways to make a difference.
As we celebrate this season of giving, it is also a time to recognize and celebrate the many ways our community has already given its time and talents. October was filled with events that reflected the energy, compassion, and engagement that make TCC such a special place:
National Chiropractic Health Month
On October 1, the Pasadena Mayor’s Office presented Texas Chiropractic College with an official proclamation recognizing National Chiropractic Health Month. Joining me to receive the proclamation were Dr. Gray and Dr. Golla. We are grateful to be part of a community here in Pasadena that values and supports our mission and the chiropractic profession.
Congratulations to Dr. Dingbo Shi
Congratulations to TCC faculty member and alumnus Dr. Dingbo Shi, who received his Diplomate in the Specialty of Chiropractic Radiology at the American Chiropractic College of Radiology Annual Workshop in Denver, Colorado. This is an impressive professional milestone, and we are proud of Dr. Shi’s continued dedication to advancing the field and representing TCC.
World Spine Day
On October 16, the Office of Student Services distributed free World Spine Day t-shirts to students, faculty, and staff, reflecting the theme of this year’s “Invest in Your Spine” campaign. This day serves as an annual reminder to us of the importance of spinal care, the easy habits we can adopt to maintain healthy spines, and the role chiropractic professionals play in improving quality of life.
Trunk-or-Treat
Our annual Trunk-or-Treat event on October 24 was a tremendous success, drawing the largest crowd to date. The new location at the Moody Health Center provided the perfect space for families, students, and employees to come together. Special thanks to everyone who participated and decorated trunks, and to the Office of Advancement & Alumni Engagement for organizing this wonderful event. All of your efforts made this year’s Trunk-or-Treat a memorable celebration for all.
Leadership Transition
As many are aware, Dr. Martha Friesen will be departing from TCC at the end of the spring 2026 semester. Dr. Friesen has been an invaluable member of the TCC community, and her dedication, leadership, and contributions will be greatly missed by colleagues and students alike. Dr. Osiel Pena will succeed Dr. Friesen as Chair of Basic Science. Please join me in wishing Dr. Friesen the best on her next journey and Dr. Pena success in his new role!
Thank you all for continuing to live out TCC’s values through your actions, your service, and your support for one another. I am proud of all that we have accomplished together.
Best regards,
Sandra Hughes, D.C., M.Ed., FICC
President, Texas Chiropractic College
