TCC Board Member Dr. Felker on Building a Chiropractic Legacy
What does it mean to serve not just a community, but an entire professional field?
For Dr. John A. Felker, the answer is found in more than five decades of dedication to the chiropractic profession, the City of Stafford, Texas, and over 20 years of leadership and service to Texas Chiropractic College (TCC). His legacy is not defined by a single achievement, but by a lifetime of consistent impact, mentorship, and generosity.
Meet TCC Emeritus Board Member Dr. John A. Felker
More than 50 years ago, Dr. Felker opened his first chiropractic practice in Stafford, Texas, with a simple but powerful mission to help people live healthier, happier lives. As his practice grew, so did his influence. Dr. Felker became a mentor to fellow Doctors of Chiropractic, offering guidance, support, and opportunities that helped shape countless careers. His commitment extended beyond patient care by investing deeply in the success of others within the profession.
Over two decades ago, he brought that same passion to Texas Chiropractic College by joining the Board of Regents. His goal was clear: to expand his impact beyond his local community and contribute to the future of chiropractic education. In 2021, he and TCC alumni Dr. Jose A. Simon received the 2020 William D. Harper award as recognition from TCC for their efforts to help the institution improve and grow. Through the years, Dr. Felker’s dedication never wavered, earning him the distinguished title of Emeritus Board Member. Currently, Dr. Felker participates in two committees and makes generous contributions to the Student Pantry, which assists students in need of essentials and directly affects our students’ success.
A Legacy Recognized by the City of Stafford
As a formal thank you to Dr. Felker, the City of Stafford granted him a Certificate of Recognition on March 18, 2026. The people standing by him were those who have been part of his journey, including his family, colleagues, and community leaders. Among the colleagues present were four TCC alumni who he helped get started with their careers: Drs. Jose A. Simon, Sherry Durrett, Lance Durrett, and Barbara Nedrey.
The recognition reflects decades of service that reached far beyond his clinic. Dr. Felker played an active role in strengthening the community, including helping establish the Fort Bend Crime Stoppers program, serving as President of the Fort Bend 100 Club, and supporting numerous local initiatives.
For Dr. Felker, the recognition is meaningful, but it is not the motivation. To him, it was his responsibility to take care of the city because it took care of him.
Reflecting on the honor, he stated, “Any time you are acknowledged in your community or workplace, it gives you a glow…it just warms your heart.” He continues, “I enjoy helping people. I was called to be a Doctor of Chiropractic.”
How You Can Make an Impact
Dr. Felker’s story serves as a helpful blueprint for those looking to make a meaningful difference in their field.
Making an impact begins with forming and maintaining connections. Building strong professional relationships, seeking mentorship, and actively contributing to your community are foundational steps. Just as importantly, sustained service and showing up consistently over time is what transforms effort into a lasting legacy.
At Texas Chiropractic College, we encourage students and professionals alike to learn from leaders like Dr. Felker. His example demonstrates that true influence is not built overnight, but through years of dedication, service, and a genuine commitment to helping others succeed.
