PASADENA,TX, November 2, 2022 –  Texas Chiropractic College (TCC) students Lacy Lawrence and Chase Brown each presented research at the 2022 ACA Sports Council Symposium. This event took place from Thursday, October 13, to Saturday, October 15, in Denver, Colorado.

Trimester 4 student, Lacy Lawrence presented a research study she performed near the end of Trimester 3 with the help of Dr. John Ward and Dr. Jesse Coats, both faculty members at TCC. The study was on the impact of cervical spine manipulation on balance by utilizing a Y-balance test. Around eighty TCC students participated in this study to collect data. The results showed that cervical manipulation improved balance to some degree, but more research will need to be conducted to determine its significance. “I plan to perform more research studies in the future and would like to test different variables that could affect balance and performance following a cervical manipulation,” says Lawrence.

Chase Brown is another student who presented at the ACA Sports Symposium. He presented the effects of yogic breathing on sports skills- specifically on golf putting. He conducted a study that included a breathing exercise and measured its impact on putting. “Attending the Symposium was an amazing opportunity that allowed me to network with amazing doctors and students, leading me to see a lot of great avenues for my future, both during and after school. I got great feedback on my research, as well as a lot of good conversations about where to go next with my ideas,” comments Brown.

Lacy and Chase both received honorable mention at the event and Lacy was asked by the Council board members to accept a role as Student Liason for the ACA Orthopedic Council to the SACA Specialty Councils.
